Hello fellow Tuner/Technicians,

The Piano Tuner and Technician's Guild of Queensland will be holding an all day workshop on the 18th October 2014, at the Qld Conservatorium, Southbank Brisbane.

The workshop will be run by Yuji Nakamura, a resident of Auckland, formally
from Japan, with a presentation as well from Brian Wilson of the PTTG Qld.

The workshop is Free for Qld members and at a cost of $60 for
members from other states. The cost is $90 for non-members.

The workshop does not include lunch but the venue is in the heart of Southbank which has many eateries to suit every different taste and cost.

The Guild will host its annual dinner on Saturday night and you and your partner are more than welcome to attend. The venue will most likely be at South Brisbane near the
Qld Conservatorium. When the venue is confirmed we will advise this as well as
approximate cost of meals.

What is this workshop all about? A brief description from Yuji and Brian of what to expect is written below.

Class description for Brisbane workshop Oct 2014

by Yuji Nakamura, ARPT NZ

Title: Understanding of touch weight control

Controlling touch weight of upright pianos has rarely appeared in American Technician's Journals, manufacturer's service manuals or other technical sources, even though the majority of technicians deal with upright pianos every day.

I have been researching this topic using general techniques, as well as Stanwood's idea and my own idea of Moment of Inertia. Comprehensive pictures of touch weight control on upright actions will be presented in first the half of the session.

The second half of workshop will be focusing on grand actions. An action will be used to analyse touch weight problems and the class will find the solutions to fix the problem.

Title: Voicing 202

The theory, differences and application of the New York and Hamburg Steinway voicing practices. The WHY and HOW.

Discussion of hammer making, tools, hammer hardeners and techniques. How to apply both techniques to solve voicing problems in the real world.

Could you please indicate your intention to attend this workshop before October 10th.
